Amber's Journey: Overcoming the Odds After a Life-Changing Stroke
Amber is a young woman who came to the USA with a big dream. One day after work, when she tried to open her door with the key, her hand became clumsy and she could not open the door. She asked for help from her neighbor who told her that she might have a stroke. She cannot believe what he said, in her mind, a stroke is for older people, and she is too young to have a stroke. Unfortunately, she ended up with a big stroke due to a dissection of a vessel in her neck. The stroke affected her motor function on the right side as well as her speech. She became depressed, not knowing where her future is, but with a strong will, after months and months of rehab, she had been much improved! During last stroke support group meeting, she met someone with similar experiences, she was inspired and encouraged. Although she still not regain all her functions from stroke, she will keep positive and keep trying, never give up.
Catherine's Triumph: A Medical Professional's Resilient Recovery from Stroke
Catherine works in the medical field. Woke up one night preparing for work, she realized she could not move her left side. She was later found to have a big stroke and underwent a procedure to get the clot out of a vessel in her brain successfully. She woke up frightened when realizing that she had total paralysis of her left arm and leg. Catherine had confidence in the medical interventions and had faith that with time she would be able to walk again. She spent several months in hospital/rehab before she was discharged to home. After all the effort and sweat, eventually, she was able to regain over 95% of her function, walking independently and was able to return her job without any limitations. Catherine is greatly grateful for the medial team at Brookdale for their fast response that had a tremendous impact on her positive outcome.
